OUR SERVICES

We offer a free and confidential counselling service for people who are recovering from the effects of:

RAPE   |   SEXUAL ABUSE   |   INCEST OR CHILD RAPE   |   ORGANISED ABUSE   |   SEXUAL VIOLATION

 

This service is immediate, free and is available on a 24 hour basis.

The service lasts as long as you require it. There is no assessment process.

 

We also have community awareness programmes of up to 1 hour duration on the above.

We have a two hour Self Awareness programme.

 

We have also developed a three hour youth suicide prevention programme “Te Korowai Whakaea “ which targets parents and caregivers and provides resources to be able to respond to and recognise  indicators of  self harming and suicide.

It is important during your support and/or counselling that you feel you are in a safe environment.
if you have any concerns, discuss them with your Rape Crisis Worker.

 

Verbal or physical abuse is not acceptable.

Any person acting in a violent manner will be asked to leave.

OTHER INFORMATION

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

 

That you will receive as much information as possible to make your own informed choices and decisions.

 

That your Rape Crisis Worker shall not abuse her position by taking advantage of you for her own social, personal, political, financial, spiritual, or sexual gain.

 

That you will have the service clearly explained to you.

 

That you will have the option to be referred to another agency if you feel Rape Crisis does not meet your needs.

That you will have the Rape Crisis complaints procedure explained to you. You will need to know this in case at any time you feel there has been a breach of practice by your Rape Crisis Worker.

 

Children and young persons will not be physically punished or treated in a way that is degrading or humiliating or causes unreasonable fear or anxiety. Alternative methods of discipline will be employed.

 

That your rights of privacy and confidentiality will be preserved.

 

CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION

 

Confidential information shall be disclosed only with the clients informed consent.

EXCEPT WHERE:

There is a clear danger to your life, or the safety of others.

There is obvious drug and/or alcohol use.

A minor becomes pregnant.

Children are deemed to be in an "at risk" situation.

Section 59(a) of the Children & Young Person Act 1989, allows CYFS or the police
to sight any documentation held on behalf of a particular client.

 

You will be consulted by your Rape Crisis Worker before she takes any action on the above.

VOLUNTEERING

Gisborne Rape Crisis would not be able to provide our unique service without the help of our amazing volunteers.

 

We provide a full training package which we try to provide at times, suitable to both participants and facilitators.
